Emily Anderson

Emily Anderson is the 4-H Youth Development Educator in Lane County. She is passionate about environmental education, positive youth development, and service learning. Emily has a Master’s degree in Sustainable Communities and is pursuing a doctoral degree in Science Education, Free Choice Learning. In her free time, Emily enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest’s wildlands by foot, bike, boat, and ski!  


John Buzzard

John Buzzard currently serves as Assistant Director of Marketing and Corporate Services for OSU Professional and Continuing Education (PACE), where he previously served as Marketing Manager. John has been part of the PACE leadership team, led by Director Melanie Mitchell, that has seen demand for PACE non-credit professional development services rise sharply in recent years. John and his team had the unique opportunity during this time to innovate through continued growth in PACE’s traditional college-based online and on-site offerings, as well as newer service areas including corporate training and grant support for many of our OSU college partners. John’s prior experience includes marketing and communications leadership in both the public and private sector, including a stint at the the University of Kentucky in Lexington.

Brooke Edmunds

Brooke Edmunds has worked for OSU Extension for over three years.  She currently provides community horticulture education in Linn and Benton County and previously covered Lane County as well. Brooke has worked as a plant pathologist for the Oregon Department of Agriculture and led the virus certification program as well as providing phytosanitary testing support to the export industry (seed, timber, nursery products).  She has also served as a regional specialist for greenhouse and nursery crops with Colorado State University Extension and covered the Front Range area.  Brooke has her B.S. and M.S. (Plant Pathology) from Iowa State University and a Ph.D. (Plant Pathology with a minor in Food Safety) from North Carolina State University.  When not at work, Brooke enjoys hiking and beachcombing for agates with her husband and two kids. 


Liz Etherington

Liz Etherington works for the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) and the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) as the Sponsored Research Program Administrator.  She provides support to all CAS faculty in the facilitation and development of grants and contracts.  Liz develops research groups specific to unique funding opportunities and for ongoing formula funding, develops policies and procedures, provides training opportunities, finding potential funding sources, and providing resources in direction.  She particularly enjoys leading large, interdisciplinary collaborative groups through the proposal development process.  Liz has been in her current role within the CAS since 2011 but has been working in research at OSU for nearly 14 years.  With a background in Horticultural Sciences, she enjoys working outside in the garden and hiking around all of the spectacular scenery that Oregon has to offer.  


Dr. John Fowler

Dr. John Fowler is a Professor in the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology (BPP) at Oregon State University (OSU).  He is interested in the basic science of plant development, cell biology and genetics, with a particular focus on cells expressing polarized phenotypes (e.g., pollen and root hairs).  He is currently a co-lead investigator on a long-term multi-institutional project that utilizes a variety of 'big data' approaches (proteomics, transcriptomics, mutational analysis) to understand maize gametophytes, which are central to plant reproduction.  His laboratory’s internationally recognized research in maize and Arabidopsis has received over $5.5M in extramural awards from the National Science Foundation, the USDA's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, and the Environmental Protection Agency.  His research program employs a primarily genetic approach, integrated with detailed cellular observations via microscopy and with 'omics technologies.  Fourteen graduate students, four postdoctoral associates, and over thirty undergraduate researchers have trained in his lab.  He has been recognized for excellence in graduate teaching in the interdisciplinary Molecular and Cell Biology program, and is also passionate about teaching biology to undergraduates, which he does in a high enrollment course.  John received his BS in Genetics from the University of Georgia (1987), his PhD in Genetics (1994) from U.C. Berkeley, and was a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He has served on the Steering Committee for the international Maize Genetics Conference (MGC), and chaired the MGC in 2012, when it took place in Portland, OR.  On campus, he has steered BPP's graduate program as Committee Chair for nine years.  He has served the University on the Institutional Biosafety Committee, and most recently, on a College of Agricultural Sciences faculty committee addressing genetic engineering in agriculture.


Nick Harper

Nick Harper is a multimedia developer for the Course Development and Training unit within the OSU Division of Extended Campus. In his role, Nick partners with Oregon State faculty and staff to design and develop digital learning objects and assets that enhance the learning outcomes for distance students by increasing interaction and engagement in online courses. Nick has a 15-year background in multimedia production, including experience with audio and video recording, audio and video editing, illustration, graphic design, sculpture, 3-D animation and software programming. In his spare time, Nick works with electronics and small-scale manufacturing processes to develop new techniques for media production, including 3-D scanning and robotics. Nick was the first graduate to receive his B.F.A. in Digital Communication Arts from Oregon State University in 2013.


Emily Henry

Emily joined the OSU Open Campus team in May 2013 as the Tillamook County Coordinator. This position also included serving as the lead Tillamook Bay Community College faculty for their Agriculture and Natural Resources AAS degree. In July 2016, she transitioned to main campus where she now focuses her Open Campus work on the Marine Studies Initiative (MSI) and other coastal work. In addition, Emily is now the Assistant Director of Program Development in OSU’s Professional and Continuing Education unit. Her Open Campus work has traditionally focused on underserved communities along the rural coast of Oregon in the realms of career and college readiness programming, community college to university connections, and community development. For PACE, Emily works with a team to develop new educational opportunities for professionals, often with the guidance of OSU experts. Prior to coming to OSU, Emily worked with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources as an Environmental Scientist and for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis as a Guide. She has a Ph.D. in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University and a B.S. in Biology/Ecology from Purdue University. 


Holly Hill

Holly Hill is a Corporate Education Manager for the Division of Extended Campus. In this role, Holly works with corporate clients to offer credit-bearing and non-credit education and training opportunities. She works with both academic units at OSU and corporate partners to identify customized solutions to meet internal training and professional development needs.

Prior to joining the Division of Extended Campus, Holly served as the Assistant Director for the Career Success Center in the College of Business at Oregon State where she worked with corporations to promote the recruitment and hiring of students from the college as well as advising students on their career paths.

Previously, Holly served as Program Director with Goodwill Industries of San Antonio, where she managed a team of 6 full-time staff and oversaw a portfolio of 4 programs serving low-income and un/underemployed individuals. These programs reached more than 10K people annually. She also recruited government and non-profit partners to collaborate in a unique online resource portal that was the first of its kind in South Texas – where individuals could find free and low-cost community resources to help them solve barriers to employment.

Prior to her work with Goodwill, Holly served as the Director of Education Abroad at the University of Texas at San Antonio and in a similar capacity at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario Canada. In these roles she shaped university policy and implemented nationally recognized programs on risk management in education abroad. She grew programs through strong relationship building skills, and increased participation by more than 800% over an eight year period.

Holly earned her Bachelor’s degree from Phillips University in Enid, OK and her Master’s degree from Florida State University.


Tonya Johnson

Tonya Johnson, Assistant Professor (Practice), has worked with OSU Extension Service Family and Community Health in Marion and Polk Counties for the past six years.  She has over twenty years experience working in the field of public health, with a focus on prevention.   In her current role, she engages community partners in helping to meet the needs of the community through education and outreach, as well as working to identify and support population-based approaches to improving health. Her special interests include workforce development through student-based experiential learning opportunities, community engagement, and community food systems/Master Food Preservers.   She serves on several University committees as well as community-based coalitions.  Among peers and staff, Tonya is recognized as a quiet leader, and takes great pride in leading by example.   


Drew Olson

Drew is currently an Information Technology Consultant (ITC) 3 in the Ecampus Course Development and Training unit. He started working at Ecampus in 2011 as a student worker. When he graduated in 2012 with a degree in New Media Communications, Drew stayed on at Ecampus as a temp. In February of 2013, he transitioned to a full-time position.

During his time here, he has helped the unit grow in its video production capabilities. They have expanded from one DSLR camera and 3 lenses to where they are now, a room full of production equipment and a skilled team of video producers able to capture and produce almost any request that comes to them.

One of Drew’s biggest accomplishments has been aiding in the purchasing of the editing system called Editshare. The system is a robust, server based editing system that is shared with Orange Media Network (OMN) and Academic Technology (AT). They installed the system in 2014 and since then, he has taken the roll as the systems admin, responsible for user management, media management, media allotment and system diagnostics. He collaborates with the other departments on scheduling trainings, system upgrades, creating media spaces and adding users. The Editshare system has become the backbone of a highly productive video production team.

Drew was recently reclassified to the ITC3 classification and the Pre-production Lead for the video team. As the Pre-production lead, he is responsible for connecting with instructors and discussing their video goals and how best to accomplish those goals. He then collaborates with the other video team members on how best to produce the video. Once the video is recorded, the project responsibility passes to Rick Henry who is the Post-production lead. He determines the editing priority and helps determine which videos need to be edited first. The collaborative process they have created, under Victor Yee’s leadership, has increased productivity and overall quality of video. 

Dr. Staci Simonich

Dr. Staci Simonich is currently Professor of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology at Oregon State University, as well as Associate Dean.  She served as Associate Head of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology for 3 years.  Dr. Simonich received her Ph.D. in chemistry from Indiana University in 1995.  Prior to joining Oregon State University in 2001, she worked in the consumer product industry with Procter & Gamble for 6 years.  Her laboratory’s research focuses on understanding the fate, chemistry and transport of semi-volatile organic compounds, as well as human and environmental exposure to these pollutants, and has received extensive press coverage.  She received the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry/Roy F. Weston Environmental Chemistry Award in 2001, the NSF Career Award in 2003, OSU’s Impact Award for Scholarship in 2013, and OSU’s Excellence in Graduate Mentoring Award in 2015.   Her research has been published in Science, Nature, Environmental Health Perspectives, Environmental Science & Technology, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.  In addition, she has graduated 26 Ph.D. and M.S. students in her 16 years at OSU and has received several awards for her mentoring of OSU graduate students and employees.  Over her career, Dr. Simonich has received extramural funding from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Department of Interior and private companies.


Lucas Turpin

I enjoy a split position as Director of IT for the College of Agricultural Sciences and Client Services Associate Director. As Director IT in the college, my responsibilities are to represent the college in campus wide IT discussion and to help guide and improve the use of technology within the college. As Client Services Associate Director, my responsibilities are to manage technology and infrastructure at County Extension offices and Agricultural Experiment Stations.  I also have campus-wide responsibilities to manage Google Apps and Digital Measures.  I have been in a management position since 2005 and have enjoyed the various roles and opportunities provided.
