Facilitators and Leadership

The Leadership Development Program's interpersonal assessments, introduction, and December deep-dive workshop are facilitated by Dr. Jeff King from The Ohio State University Leadership Center.

Jeff King

Dr. Jeff King

Dr. Jeff King is a nationally known and highly respected trainer, facilitator, and consultant.  Drawing on his more than 25 years of experience, he delivers high-energy, content driven, experiential workshops that enhance personal, professional, and organizational development.  Jeff's unique approach for connecting with people includes a blend of humor, creative teaching techniques, and practical applications.  Using his training and extensive experience in leadership and management, Jeff provides customized consulting, training, and facilitation to local, state, national, and international organizations.

Dr. King provides programmatic leadership for the Ohio State University Leadership Center and holds the rank of Associate Professor.  Jeff also teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses as a part of his appointment in the Department of Human and Community Resource Development.  He received his Ph.D. in Extension Education from The Ohio State University and his master's and bachelor's degrees in Agriculture Education from The Ohio State University.

Prior to becoming Director of the OSU Leadership Center, Dr. King worked in the area of 4-H Youth Development with OSU Extension as a county Extension Educator, Associate State 4-H Director, and State 4-H Director and Assistant Director, OSU Extension.  His expertise in organizational and staff leadership development were instrumental in his successful contributions to Extension and The Ohio State University.


The year-long program curriculum is facilitated by Jeff Sherman and Amanda Bielenberg-Hayes. This includes the program's mentoring, coaching, book clubs, spring trainings, check-ins, content, and summer capstone:

Jeff Sherman

Jeff Sherman’s life has always been fast-paced. Growing up on a dairy farm in Eastern Oregon gave him a love for early mornings and fast-paced work environments. Directly out of graduate school, Jeff began working for OSU Extension in Tillamook County, helping to build the brand new Open Campus program. Now, in the role of Program Leader of OSU Open Campus, Jeff has the unique position of finding the “next big thing” for OSU Extension, while also cultivating new programs. Open Campus intentionally collaborates and coordinates with community members, school districts, and community colleges to serve unmet community needs.

Amanda Bielenberg-Hayes

Amanda has been with Oregon State for three years, serving as Conference and Events Manager for Outreach & Engagement, Extension Service, and Open Campus, and Marketing and Communications Manager for Open Campus. Along with planning and executing multi-tiered events and campaigns for the division (both on campus and statewide), she co-runs the LDPE program, as well as other special projects and initiatives, and is a former graduate of LDPE. Amanda is a long-time Beaver Believer, having been born in Corvallis and following in both her parents’ footsteps by attending OSU, from which she graduated in 2008. Prior to joining Oregon State, Amanda worked for nine years as a National Marketing and Events Coordinator for a law firm based out of Portland.

Lindsey

Dr. Lindsey Shirley 

Lindsey Shirley, Associate Provost for University Outreach & Engagement, has served at Oregon State University since June 2016. She holds a Ph.D. in family and consumer sciences education from Iowa State University, a M.Ed. in family education from the University of Minnesota, and a B.S. in family and consumer sciences from Iowa State University.  During her career, she has garnered numerous honors, published two books and a variety of other research-based publications, secured external funding, and held multiple leadership positions at the university, state, and national levels. She has used her drive and motivation to develop new academic and Extension programs while maintaining historical offerings at land-grant institutions in the West.

Joyce

Dr. Joyce Loper

Joyce Loper is an Associate Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences.  Prior to joining OSU in 2016, Joyce was a Research Plant Pathologist with USDA-ARS Horticultural Crops Research Laboratory (HCRL) in Corvallis.  She has been a Professor (Courtesy) in the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology since 1997, serving as a mentor for many OSU undergraduate and graduate students.  Her research interests include genomics of plant-associated bacteria, microbial ecology, biological control of plant disease and secondary metabolism.  Joyce served in a number of leadership positions in the USDA, including Research Leader of the HCRL, Assistant Director of the Pacific West Area, and Scientific Quality Review Officer, overseeing the peer review of all of the agency’s research nationwide. She also served on numerous editorial boards; advisory boards for the NSF Center for Microbial Ecology, EPA, and the National Academy of Sciences; panels for federal granting agencies; and in numerous leadership positions in the American Phytopathological Society.  Joyce’s accomplishments have been recognized by numerous awards, including Fellow of the American Phytopathological Society (2001), Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2007), USDA-ARS Distinguished Senior Scientist of the Year (2014), and USDA-ARS Science Hall of Fame (2016).

Jessica

Jessica DuPont

Jessica DuPont currently serves as Executive Director for Ecampus at Oregon State University overseeing market development and the student experience. She leads several units of Ecampus including Marketing and Enrollment Services and Student Success. Previously at Ecampus, DuPont served as the Director of Marketing and Enrollment Services. She was part of the founding Ecampus team when she started her career at Oregon State in 1998. Her accomplishments include branding Oregon State nationally as a top-ranked leader in online education and directing market research to develop in-demand, online degree programs for adult learners. DuPont has presented at numerous national conferences and assumed leadership roles in marketing, enrollment and student services in the UPCEA. 

Shannon

Shannon Riggs

Shannon Riggs currently serves as Executive Director for Ecampus at Oregon State University. In this role, she supports Oregon State’s land grant mission by providing leadership and direction for course development and learning innovation throughout the division, for both credit and non-credit learners. She directly oversees several units in Ecampus, including the Ecampus Course Development and Training unit, the Ecampus Research Unit, and Ecampus Open Educational Resources. Since coming to Ecampus in 2011, Riggs has served as an instructional designer, as Director of the Ecampus Course Development and Training unit, and on the University’s Faculty Senate and several of its subcommittees. Active nationally in the field of online and continuing education, Riggs regularly presents at conferences and has written for publication about online course development, faculty development, leadership, and innovation.
